ARENA Primary PE Conference – Get Set for 2012
Over 60 primary school teachers attended the ARENA Primary PE conference held recently at St Mellion International. The theme of the conference was ‘Get Set for 2012 to inspire a local sporting legacy’. Teachers were able to choose from a wide range of workshops which including ‘Get Set for 2012 curriculum ideas’, Fencing, Boccia, which is a paralympic sport, Dance developing opening ceremonies, and curriculum workshops to support teachers in the delivery of outstanding PE Lessons.
Local providers were available at lunch time to talk about a variety of products available to primary schools, these included, Physibets, Playline Design and Mission X. Network tables also provided information on competition and forest schools.
Michelle Roberts Development Manager for ARENA stated ‘ The Olympic games presents a real opportunity for teachers and sports coaches to engage children in PE and school sports and inspire them in other curriculum areas such as media, reporting, art, history and many others. We need to ensure we are fully planned and prepared to capitalise on this during the summer term. I hope as a result of the conference teachers in North and East Cornwall are now able to return to their schools with many ideas for our children and bring London 2012 to life’.
The feedback from the teachers was very positive and many have commented on how practical and useful the workshops were.
Bob Brown local sporting hero closed the conference sharing his own personal experiences with the teachers and explained the impact sport has had on his life, and how he is now teaching and inspiring many children to get involved in sports activities.
