The Cornwall School Games

2012

Today is the day of the big game,

Winning all the way is our aim,

Hoping not to take the path of shame,

We are not going to be lame,

Everyone is feeling insane,

Happy,

Excited,

Epic,

Buzzing,

Doing something everyone loves,

Nervous,

Anxious,

Worried,

Scared,

Doing something no-one else dared,

Heart racing,

Blood pumping,

Breath taking,

Fun.

Competitive,

Wicked,

Fandabydosy…

All our practices have led up to today,

We’ll all make a difference in every way.

Keeping the ball when we have it,

Getting it when we don’t.

Shooting for the goal- all the time!

Do it for Wadebridge, do it for Penair,

Do it for the hot lads everywhere.

Massages and plasters, everything hurts,

As you push yourself for the final spurts,

Cheering spectators make a deafening noise,

As you push yourself for that winning poise

On this day for us all to enjoy.

Written by Anna Covey, Richard Lander School, inspired by quotes from the competitors

So many great people

All on stage, in one small city.

But the person with the biggest cheer?

The local organiser committee!

But the friends you’re going to make and meet

On a journey such as today.

Will be with us forever…

Or at least in Newquay they will stay!

A big cheer for the Opening Ceremony!

To rowing …

The shrieks echoing with practice

And competitors shaking the machines.

The blood rushes, the face flushes

Hard elbows and iridescent sweat at the seams

To dance …

The energy is underlined

By every crease, every strain on a face.

So to the dance crews

I scream like everyone else

Cause in my dreams, some of those dance moves

I couldn’t trace.

To Volleyball …

Which seems to attract great girls

Who put in blood, sweat and tears – literally!

And though wind doesn’t help the game

Everyone happily takes their place – fittingly.

And now here I am

After a great day, up on stage!

So all I can say is, lucky it was good weather!

And a big Cheer for the Cornwall School Games
