Over 250 young people were invited to the annual Water Sports Festival at Siblyback Lake in June. This was the third festival of its kind and will included pupils from 8 of the secondary schools in the Callington School Sports Partnership.

The festival is once again organized by the Callington School Sport Partnership and the South West Lakes Trust. A full afternoon of competitions in Sailing, Wind Surfing, Surf Skis, Climbing and Raft Racing were staged. Prior to the event South West Lakes Trust staff at Siblyback trained the students in Wind Surfing and Sailing. All competitors in Wind Surfing and Sailing had to achieve a 1 star Award prior to the event so the pressure was on!!

Teams of 6 students competed in the raft racing and surf-ski events. Competitors had to display their skills on the lake in a relay style event.

In the Sailing and Windsurfing events the youngsters were be put through their paces under the watchful eyes of the staff from South West Lakes Trust. Dan Sollom from South West Lakes Trust, who were supporting the event, stated, "This is a fantastic event and gives pupils a chance to try different water based sports. In Windsurfing and Sailing they can also achieve their level 1 which requires hours of practice." After a successful event last year, the climbing event promised to be exciting, as teams of 4 from each school were put to the test on a mobile climbing wall to see who would win the coveted accolade of 'climbing champion for 2009'!

The day was rounded up with a medal presention ceremony during which all the winning teams recieved their awards - fortunately the weather stayed fine and it was most definitely an afternoon to remember!
