CATS Awards Evening a Resounding Success!

Over 350 people attended the 3rd CATS awards evening recently held at St Mellion International. The truly inspirational event was hosted by Callington Community College and Saltash.net Community School and was supported by Devon & Cornwall Police, Youth Cornwall, Extended Services and a variety of other local organisations.

We were thrilled to have a range of local sports stars presenting the young people with their awards, including goalkeeper Romain Larrieu from Plymouth Argyle and international boxer, Q Shillingford.

Over 140 young people received an award ranging from a level 1 award which is the first step into volunteering to level 4 which was achieved by a particularly hardworking student from Saltash.net Community School. The levels are awarded according the level of responsibility and involvement by the young person.

CATS volunteer of the year award 2010 was awarded to Conor Brady from Saltash.net Community School.  He received three separate nominations for his voluntary work which included his work with the school and town rugby teams, his fundraising efforts for Ellie’s Haven and for the volunteering he does at Sir Robert Geffery’s V A CE Primary School.

Students from Callington received awards ranging from level 1 to level 3.  These included a group of girls who were involved in the Feeling Good Looking Good project, which helped to promote heath active lifestyles with local primary school children. Several groups of students were involved in Force in Action clean up and bulb planting days in and around Callington which were run in conjunction with Devon & Cornwall Police.

Director of the Sports Partnership at  Callington Community College , Michelle Roberts said ‘the awards evening was an outstanding success and provided the CATS committee with  the opportunity to let the local community know what amazing young people we have volunteering with and supporting a whole range of local projects and organisations, and to recognise and celebrate their achievements’.
